EU Parliament holds Chinese event
上周二,一场以迎接农历新年为主题的中国文化展在位于比利时布鲁塞尔的欧洲议会大厦举行。展出内容包括中国传统节日菜肴、茶道、书法、武术等等,令前来参观的访客一饱眼福和口福。
Around 700 people gathered in the European Parliament in Brussels last week to participate in a special event marking Chinese Lunar New Year, which falls on February 14. The event featured traditional Chinese activities such as cooking, tea ceremony, calligraphy, brush painting, shadow boxing and martial arts.
At the opening ceremony of the Chinese New Year at the European Parliament, Song Zhe, head of the Chinese mission to the E.U., said that “respect for the values of understanding and acceptance of each other can help build harmony and common progress between the nations.” He hoped the event would spark interest in and insight into China and help parliamentary members to view China with an open mind.
Iliana Ivanova, the European Parliament’s vice-chairwoman for relations with China, said that the New Year at the European Parliament is “one of the biggest events to be held in the European Parliament celebrating China and its culture and tradition.” She also hoped the event would deepen the partnership between Europe and China, which face common challenges such as global warming, terrorism and natural disasters.
