    The debate swirling around the use of thin versus plus-size models in fashion is heating up. While some designers still favor dressing slim women, others have changed to a focus on larger sizes. This shift to women of more realistic shapes is reasonable enough -- anorexia is a disease of modern teenage girls who look at skinny models and feel pressure to starve to achieve similar looks.

    The “Curves Ahead” campaign by V Magazine features five plus-size models demonstrating their curvy bodies. The models share their bodies frankly, imperfect bottoms and love handles included. Some pictures show fashionably dressed models while other feature nealy-nude subjects.

    Plus-size models do not exclusively wear garments marketed as plus-size clothing. This is especially true when participating in fashion editorials for mainstream fashion magazines. The height requirements for plus-size models are no different from those of other models (they should not be shorter than 175 centimeters) and they are expected to have clear skin, good bone structure and a well－proportioned body.

    Increasingly, plus-size models are being utilized to stimulate debate on healthy self-esteem and body image, especially regarding struggles with eating disorders. Other terms to refer to plus-size models include “full-figured model,” “extended-sizes model” and “outsize model.”
