| Primary schools in Xiamen started to enroll students on August 13-14. A record number of children were born in 2000 (see photo above), so the primary school admission numbers were much higher than normal. It made for a stressful two days for both schools and parents. In Siming district alone, the number of primary school students increased by 1,200 on last year. The mini baby boom was attributed to the 2000 Year of the Dragon, which was considered a lucky year in China. Photos by Yao Fan |
