2006年度中央电视台"希望之星"英语风采大赛已落下帷幕, 福建赛区首次组队参赛取得了全国团体总分第七名的好成绩. 而福建总决赛中选手们出色的思辨能力也给评委和观众留下了深刻印象.

For: The most important thing for middle school students to learn is how to be independent.

A lot of subjects that middle school students learn today will not be useful in the future. But a good personality will be with them for the rest of their lives. So being independent is really important.
中学生学的课本知识很多将来都用不上,而好的品格包括独立性却会伴随他们一生, 所以独立很重要.

It is ironic that many college students cannot live independently. So, middle school students should learn to be independent from now on.
如今很多大学生都无法独立生存, 所以中学生要从现在开始学习独立.

Independence doesn't mean separateness from others or being blind to advice from other people.
独立不意味着与人隔绝, 不意味着固执己见.

Independence is a prerequisite for gaining many abilities.
独立是获取其他能力的前提.

Our lives cannot go smoothly all the time, and we can't expect help from others all the time. Problem solving is based on independence.
我们的生活不会总是一帆风顺, 不能总指望别人来帮忙. 要想解决问题得先学会独立.

Against: Schoolwork, respect for your family and many other things are more important for middle school students.

Middle school is the time for teenagers to focus on schoolwork, as they are not mature enough for independence.

Middle school students should first and foremost gain a wide range of knowledge before they can seriously talk about being independent.

读一本好书, 品一部好电影, 和一个有趣的人聊天, 还有看一场世界杯, 世界上最好的事情莫过于此. 六月, 世界杯在时隔一千四百多天后, 如期在德国上演. 从此Suky这个伪球迷就生活在德国东一区时间啦.

1. Holland will be taking on Argentina next week.
下周, 荷兰将对战阿根廷.

除此之外, 我们还可以用 against 这个字, 因为 against 是一个介词, 所以用法会比较灵活一点, 例如你要说, "对战阿根廷的比赛将会非常精彩", 如果你用 play 或是 take on 就会有点小小的困难, 因为这个句子将会有两个动词, 这时如果你说, "The next game against Argentina will be a very good one." 就可以省去不少麻烦.

2. English hopes for World Cup success have suffered a serious setback.
英国的夺冠之路遭遇严重挫折.

Suffer a setback, 遭遇挫折. 英国队的女性fans是很多的, 所以很多MM都知道遭遇挫折是因为: Striker Wayne Rooney has broken a bone in his foot.前锋鲁尼的前足骨折.

3. They'd better attempt a shot before the referee blows for full time.
他们最好在终场前射门.

不过, 即使射门也有可能倒霉到The goal is disallowed进球无效(如阿根廷), 即使不射门也有可能好运到碰上own goal乌龙球(如英国), 哈哈!
