The national finals of the Star of Outlook English Talent Competition has produced a triumph for Xiamen. Lucy Chen (center, with CCTV judges), winner of the Fujian regional qualifying competition in the Middle School age group, took first prize to become national champion, beating off strong competition from 21 other participating provinces. She was just one of a strong Fujian team. Five contestants made it through to the national finals and Fujian was placed seventh overall. Common Talk was commended as a "best organizer" by the Outlook committee.
