| International Taiwan dance Foreign winners of a Taiwan quiz, try a traditional Taiwanese folk dance with teachers and children at Love Chinese Kindergarten on Friday April 21. Eleven lucky prize winners from all over the world were in Xiamen over the weekend to see for themselves how relations across the Taiwan Straits work here in Xiamen. They were given the opportunity to come to China for ten days to visit Beijing and Xiamen after taking part in the Taiwan quiz on China Radio International last year. During their time in Xiamen they were able to see Gulangyu, visit a Taiwanese company and meet some of the next generation of Taiwanese children as they put on a performance in the kindergarten in Xianyue. After exchanging gifts with the children, they had time to look around the kindergarten. A winner from Bangladesh, Zillurrahman Zilu, said that his visit to Xiamen had made him realize how close the ties were between Taiwan and the mainland. Other winners were glad to be part of this international exchange. Christer Brunstrom, from Sweden, explained how he had come to take part in the quiz: “I have listened to China Radio International for over 40 years, since I discovered short wave radio in 1962.” First prize winner A. G. Baji from Nigeria was excited about representing Hausa, his language, in China: “I listen to programming on many international radio stations in Hausa, and winning this competition shows how important this kind of international communication is.” The Taiwanese children at the Kindergarten were glad to take their new toys chocolate, felt pens, toy trucks and even a car track and get on with their show. Zhang Zhiyu said, “I got some chocolate, and I danced with the foreigners. But I didn’t give them anything back!” The competition winners had answered 10 questions about all aspects of Taiwan.
