The Nominations for the 2005 Orange British Academy Film & Television Awards have been announced.

The battle for the BAFTA awards - often seen as an indicator for the Oscars - has turned into a battle between British favourite The Constant Gardener and Ang Lee's 'gay cowboy' movie Brokeback Mountain.

British thriller The Constant Gardener has been nominated for 10 Baftas.

The adaptation of the John Le Carre novel, which stars Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz, is up for Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress and seven other awards.

Ang Lee's gay cowboy film Brokeback Mountain and racial drama Crash both received nine nominations.

The awards ceremony, which will be hosted by Stephen Fry, will take place at the Odeon, in London's Leicester Square, on February 19.

The Constant Gardener will face stiff competition in the Best Film category. It's up against Brokeback Mountain, Crash, Capote and Good Night, and Good Luck.

Hollywood hunk George Clooney is up for a total of four Baftas including two Best Supporting Actor nominations, and Best Director for Good Night, and Good Luck.

The Constant Gardener star Fiennes will take on Brokeback Mountain's Heath Ledger, Capote lead Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix - who stars as the late Johnny Cash in Walk the Line, and Good Night, And Good Luck's David Strathairn for his portrayal of US broadcaster Ed Murrow.

In the Best Actress category, 34-year-old Weisz, who won the prize Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes for her role in The Constant Gardener, vies with Dame Judi Dench for sexy comedy Mrs Henderson Presents, Charlize Theron for North Country, Ziyi Zhang for Memoirs of a Geisha and Walk The Line's Reece Witherspoon.

Held outside Atlantic City, N.J., for the first time in its 85-year history, the pageant wrapped up Saturday night with the crowning of Miss Oklahoma Jennifer Berry - and with a new buzz for the faltering grande dame of beauty competitions.
Yet it remains to be seen whether what happened in Vegas will stay in Vegas. Pageant CEO Art McMaster said that no decision had been made on where Miss America was headed next.

The "My Prerogative" purveyor is flatly denying a report this week in the New York Daily News that he and superstar wife Whitney Houston are on the verge of divorce. "The rumors are wrong," he told People magazine. "They're false."
According to the Daily News, the 36-year-old Brown told friends that he and his 42-year-old missus were preparing to split permanently. The newspaper also reported that Brown had also been spotted with several women backstage at Connecticut's Foxwoods Casino.

Hanks still America's favorite

That the two-time Oscar winner reigned, for the third time overall, as the top silver-screen pick in the annual poll is a particular feat, considering Hanks did not release any new films in 2005. His last big-screen outing was 2004's computer-generated Christmas fantasy The Polar Express.
Hanks, 49, also remained the top pick with the fairer persuasion, ranking as the top movie star among female pollsters. Johnny Depp nabbed the second spot on the list.
