A sight for sore eyes
Have you ever experienced a loss of vision, back and neck aches, distress or anxiety after sitting in front of the computer for long periods? If the answer is yes, then you are a sufferer of CVS (Computer Visual Symptoms).
According to a survey, more than 82.4% of computer users suffer from CVS. In the USA, it has become the number one vocational disease. Pain and fatigue of the eyes is often accompanied by a headache, resulting from prolonged staring at the computer screen, uncorrected defects of vision, or an imbalance of the eye muscles. In addition, cases of glaucoma are also increasing sharply.
In the past decade many products have been researched and developed to protect our eyesight from the damaging effects of too much computer use. These have included the eye-friendly screen net, the eye massage shade and a special desk lamp. But all of these products merely reduce screen radiation or temporarily conceal the symptoms of eye fatigue instead of protecting the eyesight. This approach can lead to a weakening of natural immunity.
Now a new product - the microcomputer eye strain reduction device, or easy-eye card, as it is known for short, comes as an exciting new surprise for all computer users and people who read and write a lot every day. It is a specially designed visual health product unlike any other device currently on the market in China or abroad.
Developed by Tsinghua Huishi Company, the microcomputer eye strain reduction device is the first advanced eyesight protection product of its kind to be officially approved. It is an application of micro-optic quantum technology and advanced electronic super HF technology. These high tech developments allow the microcomputer eye strain reduction device to effectively reduce the strong stimulation caused by certain visual surroundings. In this way it can prevent and alleviate short sight, reduce fatigue of the eyes and thus improve working efficiency.
Tests show that as much as 81% of VCS can be eliminated by using the easy-eye card. It is especially suitable for reading, writing and using computers at a distance of 20-60 cm from the eyes.
When the easy-eye card appeared at the annual Computer Festival this summer in Zhong Guancun, the Chinese Silicon Valley in Beijing, it attracted a lot of attention with its modern design, bright orange inner plate and extraordinary high functions.
Composed of two parts (the micro quantum eye-strain reduction card and light source), it can be folded like a cell phone. When opened, it folds out to 90 degrees and can be placed on the upper edge of the computer display. The light source can be directly connected to the USB port.
Compact, safe, convenient
Portable and simple to secure, the radiation free easy-eye card does not come into direct contact with the eyes and can be easily folded between the pages of a book, and taken out for use anywhere, any time. It's very easy to attach above or near to a book within your field of vision when you read. Illuminating from top to bottom, the card can provide a stable light source without flickering, and can soften the glaring light around the keyboard area, to make your eyes feel relaxed and comfortable. Normally our blink rate decreases the longer we use our eyes. When we sit in front of a computer for hours, the normal blink rate of 22 times per minute will fall sharply to just 4-5 times per minute. When our eyes get dry and tired, they will also swell up and feel painful because of the high visual strain from looking at a single strong light stimulus.
With the help of this wonderful device, the blink rate will be greatly increased and your eyes will be moister and more comfortable.
Currently, there is no supply of this microcomputer eye strain reduction device on the market in Xiamen. We hope that in the near future, it will become a part of our everyday life and benefit us all.
Tips for protecting eyesight:
Take a 10m break every hour
Try to relax your eye muscles for ten minutes after using computer or reading for an hour. Gently massage the areas around the eye or look into the distance for temporary relaxation.
Take fish oil regularly
A fat found in fish (DHA) may help protect and promote healthy retinal function. DHA is concentrated in the retina and has been found to be particularly useful in preventing macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness.
Get plenty of lutein
Lutein is a carotenoid found in vegetables and fruit. While beta-carotene, another carotenoid, is commonly known to be important for visual health, lutein may be even more important.
Eat dark colored berries
Berries can prevent and even reverse macular degeneration, and bioflavonoids from dark-colored berries including blueberries, cranberries and others are also beneficial.
Avoid trans fat
Trans fat is an artery-clogging fat that is formed when vegetable oils are hardened into margarine or shortening. A diet high in trans fat appears to contribute to macular degeneration.
Science & technology round-up
Digital pen spells out "intelligent" future
How would you like a magic pen that could turn handwritten notes into digital hard copy? The new gadget has been made possible thanks to new computer vision technology. A tiny digital camera installed in the pen, which also carries a normal ink refill, tracks handwriting using computer visual techniques. It digitizes the data and turns it into a text file.
NASA reveals new images of Earth
NASA has released new images of the Earth generated by its "Blue Marble: Next Generation" technology, which has allowed the space agency to create some of the most detailed observations ever made of the planet. The new imagery provides a detailed look at an entire year in the life of the planet. The monthly images reveal seasonal changes to the land like the greening and dying-back of vegetation in temperate regions.
New technique for embryonic stem cells
A new technique has generated embryonic stem cells in mouse experiments. In the novel procedure, called altered nuclear transfer (ANT), researchers first create genetically altered embryos that are unable to implant in a uterus, and then extract stem cells from these embryos.
New material for
disposable injectors
Chinese scientists have recently developed a new material called TPE to replace the traditional PVC for making disposable syringes. Unlike the widely used PVC syringes, the new TPE products do not contain any additives or small molecular compounds, which can pose a hazard to patients.
