Whose name springs to mind when you see the Chanel label? Karl Lagerfeld, most probably. What about YSL Rive Gauche? I'm pretty sure you would say Stefano Pilati. It's true, the cult of the designer has become an intrinsic part of fashion. It is hard to think of a label other than MaxMara that has remained consistently at the top of the industry without a "name" behind it.
Yet MaxMara has survived for more than 50 years by bucking the designer trend. Its collections rely not on one individual talent, but on a constant flow of creativity which involves a whole host of fashion professionals, largely unknown young designers in the studio, fabric researchers, pattern cutters and accessory and production specialists.
This system of collaborative creativity has, from time to time, involved input from designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, the late Franco Moschino, Dolce & Gabbana and Narciso Rodriguez; but no individual has ever monopolized the collections.
Besides its unique arrangement with designers, the stubborn MaxMara is also famous for its refusal to blindly follow the volatile trends of the fashion industry. The style always remains classic, but with enough variation each season to keep it on the cutting edge. In 2001, the founder of the label, Achille Maramotti, in a rare interview, told Harper's Bazaar: "What's next is clothes that live longer. It might seem antique. But it's also modern. In the market, the idea is for everyone to throw everything away each season. But I'm interested in making good design and things that last."
Achille Maramotti's first contact with fabric and fashion came through his great-grandmother, Marina Rinaldi, who ran a high-class dressmaking atelier in northern Italy in the late 19th century.
It was she who inspired her great-grandson to launch the MaxMara label in 1951 with just two designs: a camel-colored overcoat and a geranium-red suit. Elegant and well-tailored, they took the French style that was fashionable at the time and reinvented it with an Italian flavor; the results displayed all the characteristics of what was to become the MaxMara signature, which is still instantly recognizable today.
Today, it is not just the clothes that attract attention: MaxMara's distinctive range of accessories is also highly regarded, especially the eyewear. The new MaxMara eyewear collection is marked by absolute sophistication and elegance. Unusual wraparound metal sunglasses and rounded acetate silhouettes: profiles are always mysteriously dark and oversized, featuring metal inserts that identify the brand or enliven the front with original floral design motifs.

The Munich Band's 2005 China Tour will be an exciting event for all involved. After playing in Hangzhou, Zhongzhou and Beijing, they will hit Xiamen on September 27 and start their four nights of performances.
During the one hour of the buffet, every member of the band will perform one after another with different musical instruments to add to the fun. With saxophone, keyboard, drums and trumpet, the band will show off music of various styles. Then they will invite visitors to join in the fun with their steins in hand.
Mr Joerg Dellaher, leader of the Munich Band, always likes to build up to one climax after another with his audience. He is skilled at raising the level of excitement and tickling the participants with games such as the chicken dance and rabbit dance. The funniest, perhaps, is dancing with a spoon. Every participant will beat his or her spoon in time with the band. It will be a great extravaganza of music.
In addition, there will be one German intern wearing traditional Bavarian costume on the stage and all guests will be able to take a photo with her as a special memento.
