Raisin Weekend is a tradition that has been associated with the university as a "rite of passage" for new students. Each year a fresher student has the opportunity to be adopted by a senior student who will be known as their academic mother or father. In the past the new student would present their parent with a pound of raisins, which has now been replaced with a bottle of wine.

About 2,000 South Korean housewives make Kimchi, Korea's traditional spicy, pickled and fermented vegetables, in front of the City Hall as part of a campaign to help needy neighbors in Seoul, November 24. Kimchi is a preparation traditionally made during winter by mixing cabbage and radish with garlic, red peppers, ginger and sometimes fish.

World's largest risotto

The record breaking recipe called for 1,600 kgs of risotto rice, 800 kgs of peas, 320 kgs of butter, 320 kgs of Parmesan cheese and 80 liters of olive oil.

A monkey drinks a can of Cola during the monkey party at the Phra Prang Sam Yod temple in the city of Lopburi, about 150 km north of Bangkok, Thailand on November 28. Scores of monkeys which inhabit the city are treated to a banquet of fruit and vegetables around 2,000 kilograms and soft drinks every year in November as the city's way of thanking them for drawing tourists to the town. Otherwise the monkeys are considered a nuisance pulling down aerials and stealing food from street vendors.
