CEAC celebrates 5th anniversary

中国欧洲艺术中心成立五年以来,成功举办了50多场当代艺术展览和中外交流活动,为我市填补了这方面的空白.上周五,它更以一场别开生面的荷兰现代艺术项目展示和瑞士摇滚音乐会来庆贺自己的生日.

Proud achievements

At the opening speech, Ineke Gudmundsson, the director of the center proudly announced the achievements the center has made during the past five years.



"Five years ago there was no place for the contemporary visual arts here in Xiamen when the first CEAC exhibition opened. Since then we have presented more than fifty exhibitions and art events. Xiamen University Art College who has been our partner from the beginning has through the CEAC recieved many interesting lectures from numerous international artists about their art, and has also recieved many foreign teachers for shorter or longer times working here at the university. Today we can say that the CEAC has been an inspiration to other art activities in Xiamen."

Loud & Clear

The Loud & Clear Project is sponsored by the Bifrons Foundation located in Holland. Its aim is to combine contemporary music in the broadest sense with other disciplines.

The project challenged composers, visual artists and publicity designers to come forth with an individual presentation, not lasting for more than 5 minutes. The creative results of each of the three participants were brought together on an individual DVD, so that it could be understood and taken as a small art piece in itself. In this way nine trio's created nine seperate DVDs.



There are different and interesting ways that the project "Loud & Clear" is presented. Firstly are the single and double sided street signs created by means of large screens. In the streets, passers-by see moving images in a natural way as if they were just ordinary TV broadcastings.

Secondly are the single and double screens inside the museum building which force the visitors to participate during the showings. Inside a given space, four or five walls were used for showing the individual DVDs in a screening at one time. To watch each next film the audience is forced to move to the other side of the room. This makes the screening of the nine DVDs into a kind of lively performance of the audience.

Steamboat Switzerland

With their delirious mix of hardcore rock, free improvisation and contemporary composition Steamboat Switzerland has toured Europe and Northern America since 1998 very successfully. On Friday evening, their performance enabled the audience to have the first glimpse of this wild music style.



In addition to their usual "heavy" set up-Hammond organ, bass, drums- the trio also established their reduced, quasi-acoustic improved setting: prepared and amplified grand piano with feed back devices, microphone/amplified concert guitar and small drum set. That's a set up Steamboat Switzerland recently used during several festivals and also at their Xiamen concert.

今天向大家推荐"甲壳虫"乐队( Beatles)主唱约翰·列侬(John Lennon)的一张最新唱片.-《Acoustic》,发行时间2004年11月2日,厂牌:Capitol/EMI

没有一个音乐人能够像列侬(John Lennon)这样兼具艺术家的飘逸和恶童般的顽劣,所谓桃花源的仙气和世俗里真刀真枪的鲜血淋漓,在他的音乐里往往都能找到.也许有人会嫌单飞之后他的音乐因为太过柔软而变得乏味,但就因为大野洋子(Yoko Ono)这个"东洋巫婆"的存在,虽然让他走上一条怪异之路,却在这种音乐的倒退中营造了真正属于他自己--列侬式的爱情宗教, 音乐宗教,这可远比他的乌托邦梦更值得人赞美.

《Acoustic》还是洋子从列侬生前的作品里整理出来的一张作品集,抛开赚死人钱的恶名,像列侬这样的已故歌手的旧作专辑终究是出一张少一张了,何况还是这样一张"家庭"式的作品.何谓"家庭"式的作品?因为这张《Acoustic》不仅仅只是像专辑名表现的那样不插电和原声,这其中的7首作品都是列侬创作的原始记录,甚至不是那种已经可以拿到录音棚和乐手共同修改讨论的Demo,而完全是灵感来临时在第一事发地的现场录音.

整张专辑可以说是列侬吉它弹唱的一次总汇,显然当年来自利物浦的穷孩子即使音乐风格再怎么变化,也改变不了他用吉它这件利器来创作音乐的习惯,而洋子似乎也很明白他的心意,于是在这张专辑中还特意安排了吉它歌谱, 五线谱,并在初发版上放上了一枚吉它拨片,而我想"请跟着列侬一起弹吉它"潜台词背后那个世界才是真正列侬式的乌托邦.

An eyesight feast

"Angle" - the 1st International Short Film & Video Festival in Xiamen 2004 kicked off on Nov. 17 at the Xiamen Youth Hotel. The festival presented over 40 works from many countries, including the USA, Canada, Germany, France, Holland, Belgium, Spain, Hungary, Poland, Brazil, Japan and China.

The festival was organized by Xiamen Vis-a-Vis Art (厦门二步七艺术空间). It ran through the 20th, with the venue of the latter two days shifting to Zhangzhou.

On the evening of November 19, Min Huifen, China's renowned Er-hu (a Chinese traditional musical instrument) master and her son Liu Ju, permanent conductor of the Central Ballat Troupe presented a moving concert in coordination with the Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra. Their excellent performance won rounds of applause from the audience.
