The newly released market survey statistics for August show that the domestic brand of LCD TV sets have surpassed the foreign brand for the first time to become the market leader, with XOCECO having the largest share of the market at 15.7%, rising 7.4% from the previous month and leading the 2nd-placed Sharp by 3.1%.

5 mln. worth of fake commodities destroyed by fire

On September 24, with the order of the city's Office against Fake Products, 28 truckloads of fake and shoddy commodities were set ablaze at Guankou incineration and landfill yard in Jimei. Following more than one hour's burning, all these commodities, worth 5.4277 million yuan marked price and including shoddy foodstuffs, household appliances, cosmetics and building materials, fake cigarettes, wines and drugs, and inferior cottons, were turned into ashes. Local citizens are encouraged to report any suspected counterfeiting to the city's Office against Fake Products by dialing 5125789; the office offers a reward of up to 300,000 yuan for confirmed reports.

Price of second-hand property rebounded last month

The price of commodity housing in Xiamen continued its downward trend in August, averaging 4,301 yuan per square meters, down 75 yuan from July, and a total of 288,400 square meters of property were sold in the month. On the other hand, the price of second-hand property rebounded strongly, with sales volume and selling price reaching record levels in this year at 112,000 square meters and 2,900 yuan respectively; the selling price rose 205 yuan from July.

On September 23, Kinmen Distillery officially opened its first outlet in the mainland at No. 571-12, Xiahe Road to offer genuine Kinmen Kao Liang Liquor. The distillery plans to open outlets in Quanzhou and Fuzhou as well. The opening of outlets by Kinmen Distillery represented a major move in the economic integration of Kinmen with the mainland.

Hong Kong commodities on sale for competitive prices

Local residents will soon be able to purchase commodities from Hong Kong for almost the same price as would cost in Hong Kong. Xiamen Huayou Investment Co., Ltd. recently decided to spend 50 million yuan to set up the city's first emporium offering exclusively duty-free Hong Kong and Macao commodities under the CEPA. The new emporium will be based in Huatian Garden, with a shopping space of nearly 10,000 square meters. The company plans to solicit business in Hong Kong and Macao in October and to open this new shopping establishment sometime in the second half of next year.
