Wonderful, Common Talk!

I was so proud and pleased about your article that you so kindly wrote about me. I found it to be a wonderful piece of journalism, so much so that I have sent your newspaper to so many different people including the Mayors of Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. The reason being is that I have offered my services as an English coach for the public servants, police, taxi drivers, doctors, hotel managers and staff and Government officials of these cities free of charge to prepare them in my way to speak 007 Oral English for the forthcoming tasks, such as WTO, 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2010 Asian Games and tourism, plus many more important business opportunities that require the English language. Already I am planning the Guangzhou schedule and also schedules in other cities. So as you can see things have moved to a new level since we last met. Also your newspaper, as we speak, is also winging its way to the H.R.H. QUEEN OF ENGLAND, R.H. Mr. Tony Blair, the PRIME MINISTER of Great Britain, Sir Richard Branson, Yao Ming and Jackie Chan. You can see when I told you I was different, I was not joking. The next batch is heading statewide To BILL CLINTON, BILL GATES and NELSON MANDELLA. I think this would make a wonderful follow-up story, do you agree?

Well I hope this has set you on fire, as this is an opportunity to put your paper on another level.

Well Done

I'm writing this letter to express my gratitude towards your hard work for providing such a wonderful publication. I got to know your paper by chance for I didn't subscribe to Xiamen Daily. But my grandpa did. One day he passed me an edition of Common Talk thinking that it might be of some help for me for he himself can't understand English. Since then I've read lots of editions of Common Talk whenever I have time. I'm a student majoring in chemistry, but I am also an English fan. I've been fascinated by the essays on various subjects in the paper. Actually, I learned a lot about Chinese customs and culture from these short articles rather than in other Chinese publications. I find that the content here is not only entertaining but also very instructive. So this small paper is a great friend and form of recreation as well as a learned tutor of education. Amongst all these sections, I like Topic and People most for gaining more refreshing perspectives.

Unfortunately, I am leaving Xiamen for study soon. But I'll keep on following Common Talk with interest when I come back to Xiamen for vacation. Hope that you keep up the good work.

写这封信的目的是想对你们的辛勤工作说声谢谢,谢谢你们为读者提供了这份精彩的报纸.由于我自己没订厦门日报,知道双语周刊的存在是很偶然的.我爷爷有订厦门日报,他不懂英语,觉得这份双语报纸可能对我学英语有帮助,就将报纸给了我.从那时开始,只要一有时间我就读双语周刊.虽然我的专业是化学,但对英语也很感兴趣.双语周刊上的文章令我非常着迷.事实上,与中文版面相比,我从双语周刊那些简短的文章中学到更多中国的民俗文化.我发现,双语周刊的内容不仅富有娱乐性,还有教育意义.因此可以说,这份小小的报纸既是我生活的好伴侣,好消遣,同时也是一位好老师.其中,我最喜欢话题版与人物版,这些版面拓展了我的思维视角.

可惜的是,我很快又将离厦去读书了.但是,假期返厦时我会继续关注双语周刊.希望你们不断前进.
