CNILX staff offer a helping hand

When the Marketing Department of ABB Xiamen Low Voltage Equipment Company (CNILX) organized a donation for Amy Chen, who is suffering from severe hematological(血液的) disease, all staff kindly donated one after another. The General Manager took the initiative for this donation. In the four days from July 19 to July 22, CNILX collected RMB 11,862 in total for Amy.

 

Amy in plight of insufficient fund

Since Common Talk covered the story about Amy Chen, a young lady who suffers from leukemia, quite a number of people have kindly offered their help. So far, a total amount of nearly RMB 40,000 has been collected. A kind-hearted man who declined to identify himself, generously donated RMB 20,000 for her after learning the news.
Nonetheless, the fund collected is far from the RMB 150,000 needed for a bone marrow transplant. Because of the insufficient fund which leads to a delayed transplant schedule, the recent medical check-up turned out to be very discouraging with a massive growth of cancerous cells. There will have to be either enough fund for an immediate bone marrow transplant, or further chemotherapy(化疗) to mitigate(缓和) the deterioration.

The sales market in Xiamen for first-hand and second-hand residential property rebounded strongly in June, when the average price of second-hand property hit a year high of 2,885 yuan per square meter and first-hand property averaging 4,458 yuan.

Xiamen International Yacht Wharf planned

The proposed Xiamen International Yacht Club Wharf Project, with a total investment of USD 120 million, will be subjected to a feasibility demonstration by experts later this month; the construction contract for the project is expected to be signed at the year's CIFIT. The project is located at Xiangshan Refuge Berth and will accommodate 600 yachts upon completion. This is the largest yacht wharf ever planned in China.

International craftsmen to show off skills in October in Xiamen

The 3rd Art Expo will take place at the Xiamen International Convention && Exhibition Center on October 10-13. The Expo, consisting of 600 internationally standard booths, will provide an opportunity for local citizens to feast their eyes on special handiworks made by Asian, African and Latin American craftsmen and their live craftsmanship performance.

Disease detected in frozen spring rolls from Vietnam

The first shipment of frozen spring rolls from Vietnam recently received a "red card" warning at the Xiamen Port for detected pathogens. Xiamen inspection and quarantine authority has ordered the return of the shipment, which weighs 15 tons in 2,090 cases, worth USD 4,514.40.

Tong'an farmers enjoy income increase

The average cash income of farmers in Tong'an reached 3,011.8 yuan in the first half of the year, up 10.7 percent over the same period last year. Experts attribute the income increase to Tong'an government's efforts to increase livestock production, attract more agriculture orders and provide more off-farm employment opportunities, and the government's decision to abolish agricultural fees to reduce the financial burden on the farmers.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) recently unveiled its listing of the safest airlines in the first half of the year. Xiamen Airlines, Shandong Airlines and Sichuan Airlines topped the list with a zero accident record.

50 million yuan earmarked for upgrading of local sports center

The Xiamen Sports Center Renovation Project, which kicked off late last year with a cost of 50 million, will provide an upgrading of the entire center, including its exterior appearance, the stadium, its water supply, drainage and power supply systems. This is the most extensive renovation of the sports center since its inception 12 years ago. So far, the renovation of its electric screen, power expansion and fire protection system has been completed, and the construction of a 20,000 sq m football training field and a five-man football artificial lawn will be finished next month.

One-child parents to receive 600 yuan subsidy per year

Rural families with only one child or two daughters will be eligible for a subsidy when both parents reach 60 years of age. From this year onwards, China will provide a minimum of 600 yuan subsidy yearly per head to families in some rural areas which practice family planning.

3-hour train trip to Shenzhen possible by 2010

The preliminary design and planning of the Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway have started. The new rail link is expected to obtain project approval at next year's end, with construction commencement and completion scheduled for 2007 and 2010 respectively. The operation of the new rail link will enable people to reach Shenzhen from Xiamen in three hours.
