The Chinese Immersion Course held its opening ceremony on July 19 at the Xiamen Institue of Technology (Lujiang University), kicking off a 3-week long summer camp for 38 British students and their teachers here. The foreign students will enhance their Chinese by attending classes and various activities with Chinese counterparts during the stay. The course is jointly held by the Xiamen Education Bureau and the Cultural and Education Section of the British Consulate-General.

The per capita household income of urban residents in Xiamen during the first half of this year averaged RMB 8,255.51, up 12.85% over the same period last year, while the per capital outlay totaled RMB 8,296.52, rising 34.66% from the same period last year.

Xiamen experienced a leap in the amount of utilized foreign capital in the first half of the year, with all indicators exceeding the planned pace. In the January-June period, 197 foreign invested projects were launched, utilizing a total foreign capital of USD 1.04 billion, jumping about 46% over the same period last year. The momentum of foreign investment in the city has risen steadily each month, so has the quality of investment projects.

7 US companies arrive to bust counterfeiting

Seven US-based world sports goods giants including Nike have descended on Xiamen and Putian in Fujian and Jiangmen in Guangdong for an anti-counterfeiting operation against five local manufacturers suspected of infringing upon their trademarks. Xiamen Xinfulong Sports Equipment Plant, based in Yunxiang Village, Lianhua Township, Tong'an District and with a registered capital of RMB 30 million, was among the five manufacturers accused by the US companies of forging their registered trademarks.

15 tourist boats join hands for Jinmen-Xiamen Marine Tour

Following a year of consultation, the 15 tourist boats owned by the city's nine licensed operators of Jinmen-Xiamen Marine Tour will be put under joint operation, with all these boats running in shifts and offering the same prices and services. Xiamen to build three large parking lots

Construction schemes for building three large parking lots in Xiamen have passed a preliminary review. They are the No. 1 Hospital, Shuixian Road and Xiaxi Road public parking lots. The one on Xiaxi Road will have a space of 15,552 sq m, accommodating 465 vehicles, and each of the other two will house 300 vehicles.

At the invitation of Australian Pacific College, a youth journalist delegation from China Youth Journalism College Xiamen Branch recently departed for Australia. In the next half month, they will cover the local education and customs in Australia. It's reportedly the first overseas coverage trip by the city's youth journalists.

Tong'an to build 480 public restrooms in 4 years

Tong'an plans to spend the amount invested by the city and district respectively of RMB 7.2 million to build 480 innocuous restrooms in its rural areas within four years. Under the district's plan, 120 of them will be completed by the end of October.

Cigarette sales banned within 50 meters of schools

Under the recently drafted Xiamen Administrative Regulations on Tobacco Retail Licensing, no cigarette retail licenses will be granted to shops located within 50 meters of nurseries, kindergartens and primary and secondary schools. The Regulations will be subjected to a public hearing and revision and may come into force on August 1.

English MBA program in Xiamen

On July 10-11, Professor John who came from Royal Road University of Canada gave the MBA course for the enterprisers of Xiamen at the 4th floor in Huangda Mansion on Hubin South Road. This English-teaching course belongs to the MBA program of RRU. Nandin education institution, as the organizer of the program in Fujian province, made full preparations for the course, creating a fine environment for the students. Professor John finished the course of Business Environment and Sustainable Development at last weekend.
