How to beat the mid-new years blues
January 7, 2004

New Year's Day — a time to refresh, renew, revitalise. Or perhaps a time to suffer in bed until late, paying for the time spent drinking alchohol and eating too much the night before. The lull between Western New Year and Chinese Spring Festival can leave you feeling fat, full and exhaused. Now is the time for a little pick-me-up before the dumpling and beer fest begins!

There are many tried and tested ways to give yourself a health boost during the festive season. Agree or disagree, try them and see.

Get out and about! Head to Huang Dao Lu and hire a bicycle or take a slow, recovery stroll beside the ocean. The fresh air will do you wonders.

Sports drinks are popular these days but there is no need to spend money on them. A sweet syrup (like lemon juice), some salt and water is all you need. Cheap, available and a great hangover cure.

Avoid too much caffeine. After a heavy night of partying, the last thing your body needs is further dehydration. The local green tea, full of anti-oxidants. is a great alternative and much better for giving you a clean, healthy lift.

Massage....what better way to feel healthy than getting someone else to do the work for you.

Of course, we all know it, drink water. The recommended daily amount of water is around 2 litres a day. Most of us forget on a regular day. If your body is suffering from the silly season, give it a try.
