China's first female kite team

It was a sunny Xiamen Friday afternoon in November. The green lawn in the front of Xiamen Mandarin Seaside Hotel, was host to two 240-metre-long kites. Walkers stopped and watched. The girls who were operating the kites, however, were receiving far more attention than the massive kites dancing above. Dressed identically, the four girls were members of a kite team, said to be the first female kite team in China. They will represent Xiamen Mandarin Seaside Hotel and compete at the International Kite Tournament, which will be held as part of the Xiamen International Tourism Festival, on November 22.

All of the members are the managers from different departments of hotel. Linda, the head of team, said that they are fond of going kiting and are excited to have set up a female kite team. “We have just ordered a huge kite from Taiwan measuring 340 meters. It is made up of the twelve Chinese symbolic animals of the birth year”, Linda said. The team believes they will make a great impression at the kite tournament and look forward to more female kite-lovers participating in the future.
