Age gaps in the office
Have you aged or has the workplace gotten younger? Most likely it is both. This scenario is occurring all across the world. Your career does not have to be on the decline because you are over 40. Here are some tips to thrive in a work environment dominated by younger workers.
Be a mentor
If you have made it this far in business, you know how tough the climb can be. Find a young person in the organization that is seeking a mentor and offer to guide them through the political minefields. Volunteer to start a formal mentoring program for your firm if one does not exist. Be the "go to" person for guidance and you will soon find yourself back with the "in" crowd.
Remain relevant
It is easier to keep doing things the way you have always done than to change, but change may be exactly what is required to work effectively with younger people. When engaging in projects together, seek their advice and apply their suggestions. Before you know it, you will be considered just one of the guys on the team.
No kid treatment
In many situations team members and even your boss may be the age of your children. However, they are not your children. If you treat them like your kids, they will start acting like your kids. Be aware of your body language. If you want their respect, show them respect. Maintain eye contact during conversations and keep your hands by your side.
Update your look
One of the few things that has not changed in business is the importance of first impressions. If shoulder pads were all the rage the last time you shopped for clothes, then it is time to freshen your look. Select clothing that flatters your figure and not that of a twenty-year old. Purchase new accessories and perhaps a pair of shoes. Consider updating your hair. A new cut can do wonders to your overall image.
The next 20 years of work can be just as rewarding as your first twenty years. You cannot stop the aging process but you can certainly change the way you are viewed in the workplace.

Money management for couples
Regardless of how much or how little people have, money management is the most common cause of disputes in relationships. While each couple is unique, most arguments about financial matters start with either a lack of organization or a lack of communication. Following are some tips for peaceful money management.
Get organized
Create systems that work for both people. Choose one place for checkbooks, receipts, and other information regarding financial transactions. Use a file marked "unpaid bills" for credit card statements, monthly mortgage, car and insurance payments, utility bills, etc., which should all be kept together until they have been paid.
Put details in writing
Many people carry their financial information around with them in their head. All that information takes up prime real estate in your mind. Did you know Albert Einstein could not recite his telephone number from memory? He saved the space for new ideas. Getting all those details out of your head and onto paper will help you feel more peaceful while making the data more accessible to your partner.
Discuss your money
Sit down with your partner regularly to discuss your finances. Arrange all information about what bills are due, how much is due, and the date each payment is due into an easy-to-read format. Together, brainstorm solutions to problems that arise or ways to increase income.
Stop money madness
A money meeting is meant to empower you. While facing the facts and figures may be disheartening or upsetting at first, remind yourselves that sometimes the problem gets bigger before it gets better. In order to prevent the session from turning into an argument, preface your meeting with an agreement about what you will do when tensions rise.
