6th Cross－Straits Fair fruitful

The 6th China Cross-Straits Technology && Projects Fair was held in Fuzhou from June 18 to 20. The fair has witnessed the birth of 8,000 projects over the past six years, contributing intellectual property, technology and capital to the economic development of Fujian. As for this session, at least 13 overseas projects have successfully settled down in Fujian with a volume exceeding 850 million yuan. Pictured is an animatronic robot displayed at the fair.

Auto Expo 2008 opens
海西汽博会名车荟萃
The West Taiwan Straits Auto Expo 2008 opened on June 20. More automakers are participating in this year’s expo than ever before, with 64 brands from 61 producers. Famous marques include Maybach and MG, the latter of which has recently become the intellectual property of Nanjing Automobile.
Quanzhou puppeteers awarded
泉州木偶戏夺金
The 2nd National Puppet and Shadow Show Gold Lion Award Contest was held in Shanghai between June 12 and June 15, which is the highest-level contest in this field. Six artists from Quanzhou Marionette Troupe earned two gold medals and four silver medals for Monkey Hit Lady White Bone Thrice (excerpt) and Attend a Banquet in the Doujiu Mountain.
Special stamp published

A commemorative stamp honoring the West Bank region of the Taiwan Straits was published in Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou and Putian on June 18 to celebrate the economic achievements of Fujian. The themed set of stamp covers the above four cities.
Tea kings crowned
安溪铁观音茶王出炉
The third “King of Tieguanyin Tea” contest for teas produced in Anxi county was held in Fuzhou on June 19. Entries were judged on appearance, aroma and taste. The judges conferred the “King of Tea” title upon Xiao Jinjun from the Juquan Tea Company and Cai Yanghang from the Fujian Natural Tea Technology Co.
700 M yuan for Pengzhou
闽将投7亿元支援彭州
Fujian established its Pengzhou Quake Rehabilitation Leadership Team on June 16. Fujian will allocate 700 million yuan to the post-quake rehabilitation fund for Pengzhou, combining contributions from Xiamen, Fuzhou and Quanzhou.
Quanzhou towers analyzed

Beijing Dynasty Group technicians created a detailed surface map of the east and west towers of Quanzhou by laser mapping the site for 20 days at the behest of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. The current state of the two towers has been digitally recorded to provide data for any future repairs.

Petrochemical professionals gather

Petrochemical professionals from across the Straits participated in the second Cross-Straits Petrochemical Industry Development Forum in the Quangang district of Quanzhou on June 19. Forum participants discussed the future of cross-Straits petrochemical industry cooperation and joined in a signing ceremony for China’s Petrochemical Park (Quangang) and the National Economic Recycle Pilot Park (Quangang).
New professional titles debut
在闽台湾居民可申报四种职称
Taiwan residents living in Fujian can apply for professional certification in architecture, economics, health and agriculture. The certification process is a pilot project in Fujian that is unique in China. The labor and social security department of Fujian on June 17 increased the number of skill-tested occupations to 43 for Taiwan residents.

The China Chamber of Commerce for the import and export of machinery and electronic products has declared Fu’an city in eastern Fujian a small and medium-sized motor export base of China. Fu’an’s motor exports reached $50 million during the first four months of the year, accounting for a third of the total amount of China.
60% of grads to attend college

Fujian’s Department of Education issued its recruitment in the wake of the National College Entrance Examinations last week. Fujian plans to recruit 194,142 college students. Some universities may adjust their policies to recruit more students, which means over 60 percent of the examinees can attend college.
50 HK－listed Fujian enterprises

The Fujian leg of the “Investing in Hong Kong” campaign launched on June 17. To date, 50 Fujian companies have entered the Hong Kong market with a capitalization of HK$15 billion, more than any other province in China. “Investing in Hong Kong” is a three-year national promotion campaign that aims to encourage Chinese mainland enterprises to conduct commerce investment in Hong Kong.
